Spring is on the way!
Feb. 18th, 2004 04:23 pmAs I left work today, I quickly came to the realization that it was fucking lovely out, and would be a terrible waste to sit inside all day. Sun shining brightly down, warm enough to open the sunroof on the interstate on the drive home, hardly any clouds in the sky, and hardly any hints of the precipitation that've been drenching this corner of Virginia for the last 3 days.
There's nothing like a long, strenuous run, followed by a hot shower, to clear the head and ground the feet. As I run, my mind likes to wander- I've always used working out as a way to work through stuff in my head- and all the stresses that have been bothering me the last couple of weeks quickly evaporated beneath the steady pace of my Nike- clad feet pounding the asphault. So I've spent countless hours trying to get my new workcenter up and running only to hit snags with Supply- so what? it's beautiful out. So I've spent way too much money getting my car worked on and she's worst now than when I picked her up in New York- so what? In a couple of months I'll have the body I had at 19 again. So I've got to plan for an upcoming move across the country this summer while only spending a few weeks on land between now and then- so what? my muscles ache, my breathing is ragged, and I'm soaked in sweat. And I haven't felt this good in a long time.
Granted, I've been hitting the gym just about every day for the last couple of weeks or so, but there's nothing like a good run outside, in the elements with dynamic scenery that has always done wonders for me. Another few weeks, and I'll be back to running on the boardwalk at the beach again.
