(no subject)

So I just got off another long, weary night watch. After being stuck onboard the ship for the last 3 days pretending we're out to sea, life is starting to settle down into the normal underway routine; the propulsion plant was spinning its song to me as I was roaming around during my watch- the hiss of steam through piping, the quiet whir of turbines ticking over, the harmonies and melodies of pumps and fans vibrating on their mountings. I usually sing to myself on watch as a good way to stay awake, especially in the middle of the night after a long day at work, and as I made my rounds and watched various pieces of equipment, a song popped into my head and refused to leave. So of course, I was compelled to sing.

One of my favorite Dave songs, but I haven't even listened to that CD in a very long time, strangely enough. It brought back all kinds of memories of mistakes made and lessons learned. Things like that remind me of how nice it was to have somebody to curl up in front of a fireplace with, or just cuddle with on the couch and watch movies all day. As I was telling my dad when we were talking last week, I think that's the part I miss most about being single- having a "playmate" to hang out with and do those sorts of things with. Still, with the way my schedule's looking for the rest of the year (a whopping total of 50- some days in port out of the next 200+), it really is for the better for now.
