To continue my story...

Thursday was a day I had to go into work, but I managed to escape before 11 in the morning. The weather was warm and sunny, and I was in no mood to head home just yet. Leaving Coronado, I headed north on the 5, somehow pointing my car towards Ocean Beach. I headed through the area, ending up parked at Sunset Cliffs. The perfect spot to enjoy a beautiful Southern California afternoon. Getting out of my car, I walked around for a while, just soaking up the sun, and the sights, the sounds, and the smells of the ocean. Afer walking for a while, I hopped back in the car for a little while and called [livejournal.com profile] barefoot_diva to talk to her for a bit. We caught up on everything that's been going on in both of our lives and chatted for a while before I had to head home and actually be productive for the rest of the day. After getting home, working out, and grabbing a quick shower, Zach called me to give me Samantha's phone number. I called her to find out if she was ready to go, then headed down to her place in Chula Vista to pick her up.

I'd already figured out where I was going to take her for dinner, so after I'd picked her up we headed out to Shades in Ocean Beach, one of my favorite little beachside places. We grabbed dinner there, then chatted on the patio until they were almost closed up. After we left, we walked down Santa Monica St. a little ways before heading back to my car.

We were on the way back to the interstate when I turned and looked at her.
"So tell me, before we hit the interstate. How tired are you feeling, or are do you want to stay out a bit later?"
She smiled at me. "I'm definately not ready to call it a night yet- I've always been a bit of a night owl. What did you have in mind?"

"What I had in mind" was stopping at MacGregor's to shoot pool and hang out. We had a couple of drinks, talked about a great many things, and spent a good amount of time outdoing each other at missing easy shots on the pool table. As for what I found out:
-She's 22 years old (turns 23 on the 23rd)
-She's a registered Phlobotomist, working on getting accepted to Medical School
-Her family has a long history of working in the medical field, and also being in the military

We got along really well, and ended up staying and talking until right before last call. Neither one of us had more than a couple of drinks. I drove her home, and she invited me in for a moment. We talked for a little bit, and made plans for the next evening, depending on what The Married Folks were doing the next night. There was a lull in the conversation- the awkward moment at the end of the date when the question comes up whether or not there's going to be a kiss. I looked at her, and she looked back at me, cocking her head slightly to the side. No, I decided, tonight wasn't the night. I opened my mouth to tell her it was time for me to go ome when she beat me to the punch.

"Yeah...I think you need to go home and get some sleep. But you'll call me after the wedding, right?" I smiled and agreed with her, then gave her a hug goodnight and headed home.

I thought about her the rest of the way home, and before I went to bed I shot a quick text message to Zach:

"I think I like her."

I finally settled down to sleep, since I had to be up for the wedding the next day, but hey, we were going out again- a better sign than I'd had in a long while.
