Another Weekend Past
Apr. 11th, 2005 01:13 amOverall, it was a good weekend.
We gathered at Jason and Jake's for the barbecue around 5, and started cooking shortly after that. We had a good time- Jake invited most of his neighbors and civillian friends to the party, and I had a blast hanging out with some of my friends that I don't usually hang out with off the ship. Sometime around about 10:30 or so, we decided we had had enough barbecuing for the night, and all of the guests had left, so the organizer (yours truly) made a few phone calls and led the group from Jake and Jase's place out to Sandbar in Mission Beach. The guys all had the desire to get laid, so I of course slipped into the familiar role of instigator and started looking around for girls for them to talk to. Granted, it would have been better if we'd gotten there before 11, but I found a few girls for my friends to talk to. True to form, however, nothing happened with any of them. Figures. I got a couple of phone numbers from girls that most likely won't call back if I do call them, but we'll see. I think I'm just starting to get cynical again.
Saturday was much more entertaining. I met up with Zeke (the Token Asian Guy, or the Perpetually Drunk Guy If There's Alcohol Around- he gave you that flower, Jackee), and hung out the entire day at Ocean Beach. He'd brought a friend of his who was visiting for the weekend that apparently he'd known for the last 5 years. Her name was Jesse, and she was Canadian (Vancouver) and quite cute- like a 5-foot tall, brown- haired Lindsey Lohan. We hung out, played soccer and volleyball, and walked along the beach until Zeke and Adam decided to start going off and grabbing wood for the fire we planned on building that night. We'd already scoped out a fire pit, and they asked us to stick around and make sure nobody else grabbed it while they went and picked up the wood other friends of ours had been gathering for the past week. As they got ready to leave, Zeke pulled me aside.
"OK Ted, just to let you know, Jesse and I are only friends." He gave me a significant look as he said this. "I really don't mind whatever goes on, but to let you know she shot down Fig (the Shady One) hardcore last night."
I looked back at him for a second before replying.
"Dude, I'm just here to chill. I've decided I'm at that point in my life where I just really want to make friends. If something else happens along the way, that's cool. But I'm done looking for something.
Zeke grinned.
"I call bullshit on that one, dude. I was there last weekend, after all. I saw how you were looking at that one girl."
"Zeke, I told you. Yes, I had a thing for her a while ago, but we're just friends now, and I think that's all we'll ever be."
He grinned again.
"OK, fair enough. But you hurt my friend, and I'll kill you."
He drove off before I could protest.
Jesse and I had no problem keeping ourselves occupied while we waited for people to get back- the entire time we had a very interesting conversation about music, bands, shows we've been to, shows we want to see, and our favorite albums. She was working in a record store part-time while going to school- very cool in my book.
Zeke and Adam arrived back about an hour later, along with Nate and Dan, and we set about to getting the bonfire going. We had it about 6 feet high by the time sunset rolled around, and as it started to get dark, other fires sprang up on either side of us on the beach. Dan pulled out his guitar, and Zeke had his Boombox ready to play during the breaks. We sang, we talked, we chilled, and we drank beer. Jesse and I talked pretty much the entire time, and she told me that she'd been thinking of moving to San Diego for a while. I thought that was cool, and promised to teach her how to surf if she did move down.
Shortly after that, Nature began calling, and I set out to walk over to the bathrooms a little ways down the beach. When Jesse found out where I was going, she came with me, as she had started to feel the same urge. I finished before her, and was waiting outside when she suddenly came bounding up behind me, grabbed me around the neck, and pulled my face down to hers. Her lips brushed against mine for a moment, and she broke away and looked up at me expectantly.
"What was that for?" I asked her.
"Because I wanted to," she replied cheerfully, batting those big blue eyes at me.
"Well, I guess I can forgive that just this one time," I said, looking at her with a smile.
She leaned up and kissed me again, this time longer and more fully. We broke away more slowly this time, and she smiled at me.
"You're pretty good at that, but I think we'd better get back for now. People might start wondering where we are."
I agreed, and we headed back. During our absence, another guy I know from the ship, Eric (we'll call him The Desperate One) had arrived, and he'd brought a girl with him. They were making out by the fire by the time we walked up, and as we sat down and started socializing, they started walking down the beach and quickly disappeared from sight. Nobody thought anything more about it for a while, and Jesse and I continued talking as everybody else did their own thing. Well, I continued talking, she was starting to flirt a bit more overtly than before. I didn't mind, and was actually just starting to flirt back when somebody threw more wood on the fire. The light being given off showed a much larger area, and lo and behold, less than fifteen yards away, right by the edge of the water, were Eric and his girl rolling around in the sand making out. Everybody turned to look, and couldn't help but laugh at the situation. I turned to Jesse.
"Nice to know somebody's getting some tonight! And it's about time, too!"
Jesse giggled and asked me what I meant by that.
"Well, Eric there is a virgin, but he's been complaining for quite a while now about how he needs to get laid. Looks like he's finally found a girl that'll sleep with him."
Jesse looked at me.
"Oh, Eric's a virgin? So am I!"
SCREEEEEEEEEECH!!! I felt the sharp pain as my brain metally whiplashed against my braincase. As soon as she'd said that she was a virgin, my mind shifted back into safe mode, and all thoughts of flirting immediately vanished. Shit. She was cute, and I knew she was interested in me, but I really couldn't do anything with her without feeling bad about it- it really wouldn't be right to do anything with her- esepcially with her living in Vancouver. Now, if she were to move down here... We talked the rest of the night, flirted a bit very mildly, and I drove them home when Zeke got way too drunk to drive home. Jesse asked me if I wanted to crash in the guest room with her, but I opted out and said I'd just sleep on the couch. She seemed disappointed, but said goodnight, and I gave her a kiss on the cheek as she went to bed.
I woke up the next morning as Jesse came out and started to make breakfast, and she asked me what had been wrong with me the night before. I explained to her about what exactly had been going on in my mind, and she agreed with me after I had my say.
"You know, you're right. Yes, I think you're hot, and I was tempted last night, but I probably would have regretted it." We talked a bit longer, and exchanged email addresses, screen names, and phone numbers. After all, she was really cool to talk to, and we have CD's to exchange- our favorite bands, to see if they like each other's tastes in music. She's really cool, and should make a good friend.
After we grabbed lunch, I headed home- and promptly started feeling sick as hell- must have been something I ate yesterday. I didn't get out of bed until about 6 o'clock, talked to a couple of friends, and came in early to get some paperwork done before the work week starts up again- it's getting super- busy with all the preps we're making for sea trials in a couple of weeks, so I needed to get an early start.
