Brisbane, or Jellyfish 4, Nukes 0
Feb. 5th, 2006 10:42 pmSo it's been a long time since I've had a chance to update here...we left Australia a week ago, and in case any of you didn't get the email about how our visit went, here's what one of the local newspapers had to say about it:

Or, as I like to call it, Attack of the Killer Jellyfish.
Ironic- a multi-billion dollar, state of the art warship that could successfully bring most third-world nations to their knees, felled by massive schools of Jellyfish. So, to say my visit to Australia sucked would be an understatement- but that's another story for another time. Needless to say, I think it's one of those places I'll have to visit again sans Navy.
About Amy: thankfully, it was a false alarm. We spent a lot of time talking back and forth over the space of that week, and when all was said and done, it wasn't nearly as big a deal as she thought it was at first...those of you who really know me know what I'm talking about, so nothing else needs to really be said about that. But, we've both agreed that even with the separation of me being gone, the lines of communication are better than they've ever been, and we're both realizing that we are still independent people with our own lives, our own interests, our own things going on. I think that really helps a lot- after all, I've found that co-dependent relationships aren't really that healthy, especially considering we've only been dating for 4 1/2 months. When I get back to San Diego in March, she's going to come up to New York to meet the family- my aunt Margareth will be in town for a few days with my cousins, so she'll really be getting the full Spencer family test. :) Hopefully she'll be able to get away from work long enough to be able to come down to Charlotte with me for a few days. I've been feeling a bit homesick the last few days, talking to friends of mine here from the Carolinas, and I really want to show her my world, where I grew up, all my old spots, and hopefully she'll understand why a huge part of me is still on the East Coast. And yes Mandy, if that happens we'll probably be stopping through Charleston, too.
Speaking of flying off...I've finally got my flight info for getting out of here- I fly off the ship on March 8th, sit in a hotel in Bahrain for 3 days, then I'll be back in San Diego on the 11th. Not sure when the welcome back party is yet, but details will be forthcoming on that later. I've gotten several emails from the Recruiting District in the last few days- looks like they've got a desk waiting for me at the base at Point Loma, from which I will Jedi Mind Trick kids who want to join the navy into being nukes. Yes, you can go ahead and call me Satan now...;)
OK, I'll write more later- we hit our next stop the day after tomorrow, so I'll write from there. Good night from the South Pacific!
