So Tuesday night, Jeff, Boo, Beau, and myself decided to take Jason out to the Tavern for his birthday, get him completely wrecked, then come back to my place and beat the shit out of Kevin (who had been messing around with Jason's girl on the living room floor that very afternoon when I'd gotten home from work...again.) With that in mind, we headed out to PB, looking for good times and lots of alcohol.

Tuesday nights at the Tavern are usually pretty slow before about 11, which was the reason we decided to go there. We grabbed the pool table, Jeff started buying drinks, and we started having a grand old Boy's Night Out, like we hadn't really done in a long time.

I guess it was when I ran up to the bar to order the second round of drinks that I saw them walking around the bar. Shot girls from Tuaca Tequila, and Jaegermeister. Me being the good friend that I am walked over to the girls, introduced myself, and informed them that it was Jason' birthday tonight, and he'd had a rough week all week. They immediately caught my drift of "maybe you should go help cheer him up" and walked over in a group to give him hugs, etc. He smiled and thanked me from between 4 sets of boobs smashed up against him, and I walked back over to the bar to pick up everybody's drinks.

She was sitting alone at the far side of the main bar, watching the TV monitor's and not really talking to anybody else. She was definately cute- tall, with a slim and obviously athletic build, shoulder-length brown hair, and a mass of freckles that indicated she liked spending time outdoors. I walked up to the bar beside her to grab the drinks, and as I waited, glanced up that the TV's to see what they were playing- the dance instruction scene from the movie Hitch. I laughed easily as I watched the scene, and she turned to me and asked me what was so funny.

"Oh, that's just the role I usually play when it comes to my friends- the one who does the introductions and gets things rolling. Though I'd never try and teach them how to dance."

She smiled back at me, and we quickly struck up an easy conversation. I found out her name was Amy, and that she'd just moved down here from Santa Barbara after graduating from UCSB. She's currently working on her Master's in Acupuncture, and has only been in town for about 3 weeks. We spent pretty much the rest of the time talking and waiting for her roommate Jewel (one of the shot girls) before they took off for the night. Amy gave me her phone number before they left, making me promise I'd call her, and I joked about making her promise she'd call me back or pick up if I were to call.

"I wouldn't have talked to you for this long if I didn't want to talk to you again," she replied with a smile, then she was gone.

The rest of the night was fun- we succeeded in getting Boo, Beau, AND Jason drunk, and I was more than happy to drive everybody home, but we decided against beating up Kevin, and everyboy just went home and went to bed instead.

I called her back Thursday afternoon, and we chatted about her classes, what I do, etc, and she invited me to her Yoga class the next afternoon. Hmmm. That definately had to be a first, I think. I told her I didn't know if I'd be able to make it to that, but that we would definately hang out the next day. I told her where we were planning on going for the night, but she had a late class, and was just going to stay in, so instead [livejournal.com profile] jon5k and I headed out to PB Bar and Grill, caught up on old times, and chilled for a couple of hours before calling it a night.

I was fortunate enough to have Friday off from work, so I spent a large portion of the day running errands and getting stuff done to get ready to go back out to sea on Monday. I called Amy back as I passed through an area where I finally got coverage as I came back down from East County, and got directions to her condo, which it turns out is only a couple of miles from where I live right now. After spending a lot of time getting lost on the way there, I finally stumbled across her place, and we headed out to Ocean Beach for dinner (again, one of my favorite places...and secret weapons.). We kept up a great conversation the entire time during dinner, though the few lulls that did occur during that time were filled with her giving me that certain look that Nicole and Julia had mastered back in high school. To say the least, it threw me off a little bit and I wasn't quite sure what to do about it. Through the course of the conversation, after all, I'd found out that she'd only recently become single, after dating the same guy through all 4 years of college. That, and something about her manner shouted "good girl" through pretty strongly. If I'm going to do this one, I'm going to do it right, and I don't want to screw it up.

After we ate, she got a call from Jewel, who was working at Sunshine Company less than a block away, so we headed over there to keep her company and get some of my friends out with us as well. Amy had already asked me if I had any tall, cute, blond friends, so naturally, Chris came to mind first thing, and I called him as we walked out of the restaurant. Sam also called, as did Jon, and they headed out to meet up with us.

Hmmm....the girl that broke up with me 5 days ago coming to hang out with me while I'm out with a girl I'd met 2 days after that. She waited until she knew other people were there to head over, to try and avoid making it too awkward for any of us. We all had a good time hanging out, though Chris and Pierre were more interested in going to Effins than hanging out with the girls that we were with- typical. They left early, and Jon had to take off somewhat early too since he had to catch a flight back to VA this morning. Still, it was fun hanging out with him.

When Jewel and Amy left the table to go to the bathroom, I turned to Sam.
"So, what do you think?"
She smiled. "She seems like a really sweet girl."
I chuckled. "Yes, she does...so what kind of vibe are you getting from her?"
"She likes you. I asked, instead of waiting to just get a vibe. She's interested in you, and thinks you're a really great guy so far."
I grinned. "Thanks. And thanks for being so cool with this, you know, seeing me out with another girl when this time last week I was out with you."
She nodded. "Don't worry about it. We're friends first, and I'm happy for you. I don't even need to do any talking up, I don't think...."
I laughed.

We stayed at the bar until after midnight, then left in search of the next party, wandering up Newport pretty much the whole length but not finding anything else. Around 1 in the morning, we all decided it would be best if we headed home and got some sleep. I said goodbye to Amy (twice), gave her a kiss on the cheek, and promised to call her tomorrow. She and Jewel took off for their place, and Sam and I said goodnight and split up to go home as well.

Amazing how things work out, isn't it? I break up with one girl, and 2 days later, I meet another one that I'm interested in dating, who's also interested in me. It just sucks that I've got to spend the next week out to sea, though- but I figure emailing back and forth will be a good way for us to get to know each other a little bit better, and when I get back, we'll hang out a lot more. I'm taking this slow, because like I said, I get the feeling she's a classic good girl, and I don't want to ruin things right off the bat. We'll see what happens, and just take it in baby steps.

But dammit, I really like her.
