About My New Orders....

So last week before Thanksgiving, I called the San Diego Recruiting Headquarters to get the specifics of what I'll be doing. After all, the San Diego Recruiting District stretches from Arizona and Nevada up to Anaheim, and I could be assigned anywhere in that area.
After I identified myself, the Chief Recruiter asked me if I'd thought at all about where I wanted to be assigned.
"Well, Master Chief, I'd really like to stay in San Diego County if possible."
There was a pause on the other end of the line.
"Wait a second...you're a nuke, right? I'll be losing my head nuke recruiter here at around the same time you're due to report in! How would you like to work right here at Headquarters?"
Talk about the best deal a nuke can get. Nuke recruiters don't have to do the normal door- to- door selling that most recruiters do- by the time the kids get to me, they'll already have decided that they want to join the Navy. All I'll have to do is convince the smart ones that they want to be nukes. Easy enough- who doesn't like money, after all? ;) That means I won't have to do all the nights and long weekends that everybody else will be looking at- just a normal 9-5 (if even that long), during the work week. Hell yeah. Working at Headquarters will be an even better deal- working out of the sub base over at Point Loma will make for a short commute to work from Pacific Beach- after all, it's just down the road.
To say I'm excited would be an understatement. To make matters even better, I'll go out with the ship for the beginning of the deployment, then fly off in early March to come back here- we're due to hit some fun spots between the time we leave and the time I fly off. I can't say where yet, but I'll be bringing my surfboard. ;)
That's all for now. More later, about the Christmas party last night, and how things are going with Amy.
